Dr. Ying Shen studied law in China and Germany and obtained her PhD in Australia. Her research interest lies in the field of environmental law, with a special focus on climate change mitigation in China. She is the author of “China’s Way to Carbon Emissions Reduction: The Choice of Regulatory Instruments and Its Legal Challenges”, a monograph published in 2015. Dr. Shen was the first Australia-APEC Women in Research Fellow from China and has since held different research positions in several Australian universities. She was also an Australia-China Youth Dialogue fellow, with special interest in public choices.


The  Mercator Institute for China Studies (MERICS)is a Stiftung Mercatorinitiative. Established in 2013, MERICS is a Berlin-based institute for contemporary and practical research into China.
