Elena Lichtenthaler is a PhD student at the University of Göttingen and a visiting student researcher at the University of California, Berkeley, analysing the internationalization of China’s Food Policy. Prior to that, she was a research associate at MERICS covering urbanization, education as well as food and consumer protection policy. In 2015, she organized the MERICS European China Talent Program (ECTP) which has since been established as a regular workshop format for aspiring young China researchers from all over Europe. Lichtenthaler studied sinology, economics, art history, and German linguistics at the University of Freiburg and Peking University. She also gained practical experiences as an intern at the German embassy in Beijing.
