Mao Yishu’s research currently focuses on the identities of Chinese overseas and China’s digital policies. She studied in the Global Studies Program (M.A) at Humboldt University in Berlin and spent part of her studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi and the Latin American Social Sciences Institute in Buenos Aires. In her thesis, she analyzed the political attitudes of Chinese students in Germany. Mao holds a B.A. in Literature from Bard College in the United States. Prior to joining MERICS, she gained professional experience at Asia Society’s Center on U.S.-China Relations in New York City.
