Petra Sigmund

Since 2019, Petra Sigmund is Director General for Asia and the Pacific at the German Foreign Office. Prior to that, she worked as Deputy Director General for East Asia and Southeast Asia (2017–2019), Head of Division for East Asia (2015–2017) and as Head of the Trade Promotion Office at the German Embassy in Beijing (2004-2006). As a diplomat, she has held several posts in Europe since joining the Foreign Office in 1994: she was Head of Division for France (2013 – 2015), spokeswoman of the German Embassy in Paris (2010-2013), Head of Division for relations with EU member states and EU enlargement at the German Chancellors Office in Berlin (2006-2010) and worked at the German Perm Rep to the EU in Brussels (1999-2002). She studied Chinese Studies, Political Science and Economic Policy at Berlin Free University and at the People´s University in Beijing.
