Sebastian Groth is Director for Policy Planning at the Federal Foreign Office, where he previously held the positions of Deputy Director for Policy Planning (from September 2016 to March 2019) and Director of the State Secretaries’ Office (from 2014 to 2016). Between 2010 and 2014, he acted as an advisor on foreign policy and Franco-German relations in the cabinets of French the Prime Ministers François Fillon, Jean-Marc Ayrault and Manuel Valls. From 2004 to 2010, he worked as an expert on energy and climate policy as well as global economic questions at the Policy Planning staff of the Foreign Office. He started his career at the Foreign Office in 2001 as first secretary at the German embassy in Nairobi, Kenia. Sebastian Groth studied political economy and sociology in Cologne and Montpellier, France.
