
Valarie Tan’s research at MERICS focuses on Chinese elites and global entrepreneurs, societal and media debates, as well as political communication. Before joining MERICS she has worked for many years as a ChannelNews Asia correspondent in Beijing and Shanghai, reporting on political and economic developments in China. Valarie holds a Master’s degree in European and East Asian Governance from the University of Trier and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the National University of Singapore.
